92nd Academy Award Nominations – Joker Leads the Chaos

Another crazy year at the cineplex has delivered an even crazier Oscars. With 11 nominations, the controversial Joker leads the pack. Meanwhile presumed front runners 1917, The Irishman, and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood all broke double digits.

Perhaps the biggest story coming out of the nominations will be a focus on the lack of diversity. Globes winners Awkwafina and Taron Egerton got left out of the lead actor and actress nominations. Jennifer Lopez and Lupita Nyong’o got snubbed, representing two of the people of color who missed despite precursor support. Even Greta Gerwig and Taika Waititi missed out on Best Director, despite a solid 6 nominations for each of their films. Both were instead relegated to Adapted Screenplay.

While we did relatively well in predicting many of the nominees yesterday, the ones we missed were head scratchers.
