SAG Winners- Parasite Makes History

For the first time in history, a foreign language film has won the Screen Actors Guild top prize. Bong Joon-ho and his Parasite cast took home the Best Ensemble prize. The SAG prize often portends a legitimate Best Picture case, and it bodes well for its chances in many of Oscars best categories. The SAG is the largest awards body to announce their picks for the top of their field. While 1917 took a lead in the race by winning the PGA awards earlier in the weekend, the SAG win for Parasite closes the gap.

PGA still shows more correlation than SAG for Best Picture. While 7 films in the 2010s won Picture after winning PGA, SAG only predicted the winner 4 times. Even weirder, SAG has not even nominated the last two Best Picture winners. There’s a chance that SAG will not sway the race. Still, Parasite fans have hope renewed.
